OUR GOD IN HEAVEN

................................................................

I would like to take this time to specifically thank my friend, J. Michael Shoemaker; for without his help this father would not be in the position to try to keep a special promise he made to his precious little girl. The story behind how I met Michael I believe is fate and a blessing from God.

I had made the promise to my daughter to one day write a check to match what we raised at our yearly Childrens Miracle Network Telethon. When I made this promise it was 1996, about 2 years after Katie had been diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor. We were at the Augusta Mall in Augusta, Georgia and at that time we probably raised between $400,000 to $500,000 dollars I believe.

Over the years as we delt with Katie's illness and life in general I just did not get around to be able to find a way to get this done. In early 2005, when Katie was diagnosed with a very rare form of ovarian cancer called "small cell" while still in remission from her brain tumor, it was just so far from my mind. A few years after Katie passed away, and as I looked back at all we had been through and all she did for so many, I decided that I had to get this done and came up with the name of ADollarForADad.com. My idea was that I would raise a million dollars one dollar at a time as we were now raising between $700,000 to $800,000 dollars each year.

I had known Michael's mother for some time and she was a great friend. One day I was discussing with her about how I wanted to raise the money and also the fact that I was wanting to write a book so I could tell my daughter's story and she made the comment that her son, had written a book and that I should contact him. At the time Michael was very busy with his book, and because of everything he was doing with it and the success and recent release I decided to wait a little while to contact him.

A few months later while I was visiting one of my old stores Michael was there and I was introduced to him. I told him about how I knew his mother and that she had given me his number, and that I was wanting to write a book and about the website idea. I could not believe it when he stated that he could help me, and that not only did he write books and had his own publishing company, but that he also had a movie production company and a website design company. We talked for a short time and made arrangements to talk again. I can honestly say that it was one of the most awesome days in my life to be able to meet someone like Michael.

After contacting him by phone at his home in Los Angeles, and after speaking to him for some time, I realized what a gift God had brought me. Michael stated that we should work on the website first and before it was even up, he had already contacted various artist in California who agreed to donate art to be auctioned off to help raise money. He has a passion to help others and totally set up this website for me, and as we add things to it each day, I see his compassion for these kids and passion for helping others. I can't thank him enough for all he has done and the time and effort he has put in, and will put in, in the future to help build this site and raise this money to help a father keep a promise he made to his little girl who I know now resides in Heaven.

Thanks again Michael for all your help!!

There were many groups and people who touched my daughter's life while she was on this earth. One such group was the team members and owner of a company called "Camperland" , located on Washington road in Martinez, Georgia.

I have always wanted a camper to be able to take Katie camping. We always talked about it but we pretty much knew that there was no way I could afford one. Still, this was a place where Katie just loved to go and spend time. I would take her there, her mother would take her, and her step father Steve would also take her there. She just loved to look at, sit in, and crawl through as many campers as she could. The team members knew they would not be making a sale on these days, but they were happy to do it anyway.  They selflessly gave of their time and helped to put a smile on the face of a special little girl who was fighting for her life.

The owners Doc Allen, Gary Mollo, Bob Anderson, and all the staff there treated Katie like a Queen. They would open up and show her any camper on the lot.  They loved her like she was there own daughter, and they did something so special for her that I can never repay them for their kindness.

My daughter passed away 14 days after her 13th Birthday. For her Birthday, Camperland left her a huge camper for her and her friends to use for 3 days. They also picked her and her friends up at her Birthday party and drove them around in the largest bus size rv that they sell.  I will never be able to explain the joy that it brought my daughter and how they made me feel.  When I think about it, it just brings tears to my eyes knowing how much they cared for my little girl.  I personally want to thank them again for their kindness and for all they do for our community.  They are more than a business, they are kind, caring, considerate individuals who go out of there way everyday to help others and for this I will forever never forget.

Sincerly, Edward "Bud" Ridenour, Katie's father.

HARD ROCK IN ORLANDO, FLORIDA

Just want to say a special "Thank You" to all the team members at the Hard Rock Cafes and especially in Orlando, Florida.  They have such a special relationship with the Make-a-Wish Foundation and Walt Disney World.  When these children with various childhood illnesses come to do a wish and stay at the Give Kids the World Village as Katie did,  they treat them like Kings and Queens. They give them the utmost respect and they show just how much they care about these special children and families.  Thank you again for all you do to help promote awareness of what these kids and families go through and how in such a special way you give them memories that last forever.

GEORGIA HEALTH SCIENCES /CHILDRENS MEDICAL CENTER

I can't say enough about all the people who has helped my daughter and family while she battled both her cancer's at MCG, now GeorgiaHealth Sciences.  From the doctors, researches, nurses, office personal, nutritonal staff....just all the team members at the hospitals and clinics who always treated my daughter with the utmost respect anytime she was there for whatever reason.  I feel my daughter became a part of this hospital and a part of the MCG family and all associated with it.  I know she enjoyed participating in Kids Art, the CMN telethon, Ronald Mcdonald house radiothon, the boarder bash, being featured in marketing products for the hospital, camp rainbow and the rainbow review, and so many other aspects of the hospital.  At the end of the PBS special part #4 that she was in for the hospital, the comment is made the she passed away at home with family.  The truth is that she passed away in the ICU at MCG with her family and several friends there, but also her MCG family.  I thank all of you from the bottom of me heart for everything you have done and for the oppourtunity you have givin me to continue to be active at the hospital by serving on the Family advisory Councils there.  Thanks again and may God Bless each and everyone of you.
